Baths in Magick (Pagan Blog Project "B" Week 3)

How I love to soak in a hot, relaxing bath!  A long soak in a hot tub has been one of my favorite past times since I was a little girl. However my bath ritual has changed a bit since then; these days... Barbie and her friends are no longer invited :)

For some people a bath is merely an act of physical hygiene, but for others baths are an act of self indulgence, for others bathing is sacred ritual, either before magickal working or as the magickal working.

There are several different kinds of baths: steam baths, sauna bathing, natural hot springs, jacuzzi baths, mud baths, milk baths, salt baths, and there are magickal baths. Magickal baths are used to cleanse away our physical dirt as well as our mental, emotional, psychic dirt; they cleanse us of negative energy and prepare us for magical workings. Magickal baths restore us on all levels and aid us in making the transition from the physical existence/realm to our Higher Self.

These baths don't have to be complicated; it can be as simple as turning out the lights, adding some essential oil and/or salt and/or herbs, lighting some candles, and turn on some soft soothing music, and while soaking focusing on our intention, and using some positive affirmations.

A Guideline:
* What is your purpose/intention?
* What herbs/oil/stones/candles correspond with your intention?
* Plan such a bath at a time/place you will not be disturbed
* Gather your items and prepare your space as you would before any ritual
* Before your magickal bath, you may choose to take a quick shower to remove
   your physical dirt
* It is recommended that you allow yourself to air dry after your bath rather
than towel dry. You can wrap yourself in a robe, then let yourself dry
   naturally
* It is recommended that you wait 12-24 hours before your next bath/shower
* When using herbs you may choose to wrap them in material like a sachet, or
put them in a tea bag, etc so they do not cause plumbing issues.
* You can substitute herbs with essential oils if you prefer

  1. just about every bath/shower I take I cleanse my spiritual self, as well as my physical self. In terms of baths, I've use stones and chamomile. Mostly for pre-ritual, I just use a salt scrub. Good post. ~)O(~

  2. I love, Love, LOVE that the very first thing on your list of things to create a ritual bath is INTENTION!!! You're my kind of Witch!! Beautifully written, informative post. Thank you for sharing your wisdom in this manner!

By the by, the song that played when I came to find your post was, "The Voice" - the very last song we played before starting my Mother's funeral. I love synchronicity.

    Many blessings,
