10-13-11 Card of the Day- Tlazolteotl

Last night I drew from my Goddess Inspiration Oracle and got Tlazolteotl (pronounced tla-sol-TAY-otl), the Filth Eater, and Mother of Gods, the Aztec Goddess of the Earth, sexuality, fertility, purification  the  pardoning, as well as the patroness of midwives, and women giving birth.

According to Aztec lore Tlazolteotl she has four aspects, corresponding with the four phases of the Moon... Waxing (young maiden and lover of Quetzalcoatl), Full Moon (Mother of all), Waning (Great priestess who cleanses souls and destroys sins) and the New Moon (the old Crone, Goddess of witches and witchcraft).

She pardons the dying of their misdeeds upon their confession; she eats their sins, therefore known as the Filth Eater. She was invoked after birth to cleanse the baby of the parents' transgressions... so that their sins would not be visited upon the baby.

Her card says:
"Look within and be honest with yourself. Then you will be freed."

By drawing this card, it indicates that through soul searching,  and honestly acknowledging and accepting my failings, I can then make amends, forgive myself, and move forward... which is what the CoDA Steps are suppose to empower you to do, among other things.
