Frozen Hell

These poems was was inspired by Magaly Guerrero's prompt: Poetizing the news of 1913, part of NaPoWriMo 2015.

I chose an article was the tragic arctic disaster of the Terra Nova expedition of 1910-1913, which ended in the death of Captain Robert Falcon Scott and his party, who lost their lives to a blizzard in the South Pole.

Why on earth did I choose this article? I'm not entirely sure. I'm usually not a morbid person, honest! I'm undecided on if the story just grabbed my attention, or if it required less imagination than the other articles I found???   It does seem that the dark side wants to come through in my writing lately.

Anyhoo, I couldn't choose between a simple Haiku or a tad longer poem, so I did both, HA-HA!

Frozen Hell I

Endless frozen hell
Glacial temps sculpting carnage
Forever ice men, all

Frozen Hell II

Unyielding icy torture
A limitless cold so fierce
Food becomes scarce,
Starvation besieges
Tired, freezing,
Without rescue
Brave victims succumb
Welcoming death's slumber
They suffer no more

Internal Sadness

Never did I blend
Apart, I will always be
Hermit-ted away from society
Did it choose me,
or I it
A bit of both, conceivably
Externally charming, happy
Internally,
Sadness cries
Silently

Nighttide

In cool darkness
Eyes closed, I breathe
Going inward

Breathing
Deep inhales
Long, slow exhales
In and out
In and out
Letting go

I envision sailing on the Sea
Cool salty air, fills the sail,
Kissing my face,
Caressing my hair

As we dance on waves of darkest sapphire
The boat and I
Gently rocking, swaying
Beneath an indigo sky

Limbs grow heavy with repose
Another world awaits
Betwixt Moon and stars
Nighttide's voyage carries me away

Change Eternal

Winter ends the Crone
Spring rejuvenates Maiden
Life's eternal cycle

Reclaimed

It felt as though his cruel "love"
pierced her soft heart like so many blades of glass,
Ripping open old wounds,
tearing fresh bloody gashes
deep into her core

Spiteful words attacked,
she was degraded as a mother, a lover,
a human being,
Spirit crushed ...for a time.

Battered by callous disregard,
malaise stoked anger's flames,
birthing strength.

A victim no longer,
casting the abuser out,
terminating his miserable reign.

Determined, strong, and wise
an independent woman
walked away
with chin held high,
a spring in her step,
reclaimed.

This poem was inspired by Magaly Guerro's prompt: It hurts but it Doesn't Harm, part of NaPoWriMo 2015

Amongst The Birch Wood

Merry
Secretive
Ghillie Dhu
Weaving in shadows
Amongst the Birch wood

Dew kissed limbs glisten
Softly crunching deadened leaves
Elusive in in his freedom

The dark explorer's
Childish giggles echo
Hauntingly
Amongst the Birch wood

This poem was inspired by Magaly Guerro's prompt to write about a myth, part of NapoWriMo
